Frequently asked questions
Short answers. Longer ones are linked where they exist.
About the product
Is HomeField a church management system?
No. It is a member directory and nothing else. No giving, check-in, events or sermons. If you need those, use another tool alongside HomeField.
Is there an app in the app store?
No, and you do not need one. The directory installs from the browser onto a phone's home screen and behaves like an app. See the member guide.
How many people can we have?
As many as you like. The price is the same for any size.
Can we import from a spreadsheet?
Not yet from the admin app. Send your CSV to support and we will load it for you during your trial.
Accounts and sign-in
Can one person belong to two church directories?
No. An email address can sign in to one church directory on HomeField. If a church adds someone who already belongs to another church, that church's head of household or admins are asked to release them. Either side can escalate to HomeField support if they cannot agree. See church transfers.
I lost access to my email address. Can HomeField change it?
No. Your church admin can, because they can verify who you are. Here is how.
Can we sign in with Google?
Yes, if your Google account uses the same email address your church has on file. The first Google sign-in links the accounts and we email you to say so.
What do the invitation statuses mean?
None, invited, unverified, active and disabled. They are explained in the admin guide.
Children
Do children get accounts?
Never. They appear in their family, entered by a parent or admin. No email, no password, no sign-in.
What happens when a child turns 18?
The next morning they appear in an admin queue. An admin decides whether to make them an adult member, and an invitation is sent if they have an email. Nothing happens automatically.
Can other members see children's birthdays?
Only if the church turns that on. Admins always can.
Privacy and data
Who can see our directory?
Only signed-in members of your church, and HomeField staff when providing support. Never other churches, never the public.
Do you sell data or use it for AI?
No. Never sold, never used for advertising, never used to train AI models. It is in the privacy policy.
Where is it hosted?
In the United States on DigitalOcean, with encrypted disks and daily backups.
Can members hide their details?
Yes, field by field: birthday, phone, email, allergies, photo, and for families the address, home phone, anniversary and photo. Names are always visible and admins always see everything.
Can we get our data out?
Any time. CSV from the admin app, PDF booklets, and a complete backup on request. If you cancel, data is kept 90 days and then deleted.
Pricing
How much is it?
$14.99 a month or $149 a year, whatever your size, after a 10-day free trial. See pricing and the billing guide.
Do you need a card for the trial?
No.
What if we cancel an annual plan early?
We refund every whole unused month.
Support
How do we reach you?
support@homefielddirectory.com or the contact form. We are a small team and we answer ourselves, usually within a business day.
Will HomeField still be here in five years?
That is our intent, and we have written a safeguard into the terms in case it is not: 90 days notice, a full export, and a prorated refund.
